The Tournament of Angband

As a final event, these two constituencies’ players were invited for the opening of the new Angband town. This meant that the most powerful players were present, because in order to be a top player, cheat skills helped. It’s just that they didn’t know that they had been given cheat skills as part of a PSYOP.

Nanashi was present along with his White Dragon Knight Flame as was The Farmer with Rise, the fox girl. Eilis however was not here which was an usual sight. I bet she was pissed about it, haha, but more importantly I’ll get to see Nanashi fight without Eilis. This also meant that in places where he couldn’t use his mech, he would have to depend on other players other than his partner for protection.

The town now consisted only of a few shops above the dungeon’s entrance. The deeds for the plots of land were going to be decided by a tournament among the players who were “randomly” chosen, well randomly enough that there could be some plausible deniability if we are accused of trying to affect the election later on. Basically whoever won the most fights won the most land.

In addition to that the tournament was going to be livestreamed by several large livestreamers within Albion Online. Of course, all “live” streams would be censored by Rina and so be delayed by a few seconds. Naturally, it wouldn’t be possible to have a straightforward player versus player tournament because most of the character builds which players had were for taking on mobs rather than other players, meaning that those few who specialised in taking on other players would dominate the tournament.

It didn’t really make sense to compete for small plots of land among factions so the competition was between ad-hoc parties based on convenience. Unexpectedly, Nanashi brought me a letter by Eilis.

It read: Protect Nanashi and the White Dragon Knight Frame for me in this tournament. I will owe you one for this.

There was an in-game messaging system but that only worked among players designated as friends. This was a rare chance to talk with Nanashi without Eilis’ interference and taunting.

“Why do you want to win this tournament that badly? You know, you could always not participate.”

“I don’t think you will betray me.”

“And why is that?”

“Because you are a friend of Eilis.”

“And why do you think that?”

“Because you could have destroyed her and me if you wanted to. I can sense people’s power. You are a lot stronger than you let on.”

What kind of chuuni nonsense is that? There is no such skill but wait maybe the frame bestowed on her by the saintess can see through me. How much does he know?

For my part I did not bring Celestina either, because I thought that it would be suspicious for both of us to be randomly chosen.

“Also, I do not see what you will have to gain by fighting me.”

He was right, with the two most powerful players together victory was all but assured.
